Congressman King to visit ECC Aug. 27

U.S. Congressman Steve King will meet with Ellsworth Community College students, faculty, staff and Board members as well as community members on Thursday, Aug. 27, on the ECC campus in Iowa Falls. From 4 to 5 pm on Aug. 27, Rep. King will meet with representatives and Board members from ECC, the Ellsworth College Board of Trustees, the Ellsworth College Foundation Board, the Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors, and the Iowa Falls community in Reg Johnson Hall, room 100.
College representatives hope to visit with Rep. King about their positions on the FY16 Labor, HHS and Education Appropriations Bill; the Pell Grant program; the Tuition-Free Community College proposal; the Higher Education Act reauthorization; and implementation of the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA).
Rep. Steve King was elected to Congress in 2002 and is currently representing the Fourth District in the 114th Congress, which includes Ames, Fort Dodge, Mason City, Sioux City, Spencer and the communities in Hardin County. He currently serves on the U.S. House Agriculture Committee (Subcommittee on Conservation and Forestry, Subcommittee on Livestock and Foreign Agriculture), Small Business Committee (Subcommittee on Agriculture, Energy & Trade; Subcommittee on Healthcare & Technology; Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax & Capital Access; and Subcommittee on Contracting & Workforce), and the Judiciary Committee (Subcommittee on Immigration & Border Security, Subcommittee on the Constitution & Civil Justice).
Congressman King grew up in a law enforcement family in Storm Lake and attended Denison Community High School and Northwest Missouri State University. He served in the Iowa State Senate for six years and was a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Judiciary Committee, Business, and Labor Committee, and chaired the State Government Committee.
King and his wife, Marilyn, reside in Sac County and have three grown sons and seven grandchildren.
