ECC seeks host family for YFU student
Wednesday / October 7, 2015
Ellsworth Community College is seeking a host family for new Youth for Understanding (YFU) international exchange student Young Wook Kim, who will arrive in January. Young Wook, 22, from South Korea, is currently a student at Gashon University in South Korea, and has studied English for five years. He plans to attend ECC during the spring and fall terms in 2016.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for families to share their passion for our community and practice social responsibility,” says Tina Ruch-Wesselmann, ECC’s YFU Campus Coordinator. “YFU students come to this country to learn about our traditions, experience American culture, and build interpersonal bonds of friendship that will last a lifetime. My family has hosted ECC Youth for Understanding students for three consecutive years, and I can assure others that it’s a truly rewarding, win-win experience!”
Young Wook enjoys sports and music, and is active in his university’s soccer club. His father is self-employed, his mother is a middle school social studies teacher, and he has one younger sister. He is interested in physical education and also enjoys baseball … he hopes to be able to attend a Major League Baseball game while he’s in the United States. Young Wook describes himself as positive, outgoing, and open to new experiences. His future plans include world travel and deciding on a specific career path.
A complete biography for Young Wook is available for interested potential host families, and can be obtained by contacting Tina Ruch-Wesselmann.
Host families of all shapes and sizes welcome YFU students into their homes as if they are one of their own children. YFU exchange students bring spending money and have health insurance. They come prepared to follow family rules and want to become a part of the community. Each student is support by the YFU Campus Coordinator at Ellsworth Community College.
ECC and YFU are excited to promote international and interpersonal friendships in Iowa Falls. To learn more, contact Tina Ruch-Wesselmann directly at 648-8254 or via email at tina.wesselmann@iavalley.sites.flyinghippo.com.
