ECC Nursing students sorted 600 bread donations earlier this month for Hope Café in Des Moines.

ECC Nursing instructor Monica Warburton took her Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) students to volunteer at Hope Ministries’ Bethel Mission homeless shelter in Des Moines earlier this month. In two short hours the ECC students sorted 600 bread donations, sorted and stacked 500 desserts, shelved 67 crates of food, and helped serve 157 meals in the Hope Café.

“We worked, we served, and we shared lunch and fellowship with those who use the homeless shelter,” says Warburton. “I was proud of what we did, and so were the students!”

Merry Lee Cunningham, Assistant Volunteer Coordinator for Hope Ministries, wrote, “Hope Ministries thanks you for the tremendous amount of work you got done at Hope Café/Bethel Mission this week. We love having hard-working and fun-loving volunteers on site.”
